  • U.S. WW 2 Extremely Rare "Ethocel" Plastic Canteen
  • An original American Army canteen.  This is the very rare plastic style, known as Ethocel.

  • This type of construction was introduced in 1942 due to the shortage of aluminium, when other materials were tested for canteens.

  • This ethocel style was also trialed and was constructed between 1942 and 1944.

  • The Company name and US have been removed, possibly so that the person couldn't be identified as US Army if captured. The date 1943 can still be seen under 3x magnification.

  • This particular canteen shows the typical whitish deterioration to the plastic, that should have been opaque and caramel coloured.  The cap is intact, missing the cork and being the concave bakelite type.

  • Similar one sold for $383.50 on: hornbeammilitaria.co.uk

  • Comes with shoulder strap as shown in photos
